This piece is the "Cigarra". It is one of four cigarras. The cigarra is an insect, which makes a loud and vibrating sound, which is very characterisitc in the hot Rio de Janeiro summer nights.I gave this one as a gift to Lucas Leuzinger, my friend who now lives in the Pantanal, where he and his wife Musa, run a wilderness lodge "Fazenda Barranco Alto". The gift was made about 3 years ago... As the canvas still was needing a chassis, I took it home to get it streched on the frame.
Unfortunatelly though, as things happen, the piece still hangs in my appartment in Rio. We need to find a way to bring it to its new, distant home in the wilderness...
Lucas left a nice comment on the "Arpex - the name" posting, which made me very happy. He remembers our adventures on the Arpoador rock. He and his brother Matthias and sister Sibylle are part of these adventures. Our families would often spend the day together at the Arpoador beach. And of course he remembers the pit-stop on the way back, where all kids would have a delicious icecream at "Alex".
