Jangadas

There was an interesting thread about jangadas, traditional Brazilian workboats, on the Chine bLog, in the beginning of April. I meant to post it before. See it at:

I find it always amazing how the apparently feeble structure keeps the mast up. The flexibility of the long spar certainly takes a good part of the strain. The ones on the picture are actually not that long. But some are surprisingly high. Anyway,... the boom-yard is almost longer than the mast, making for a low Center of Efford (CE).
